For the third time in three games, one big inning propelled the third-ranked Florida State baseball team to a high-scoring ACC win over Virginia Tech at English Field on Sunday. This time it was a six-run sixth, and the Seminoles went on to an 18-12 victory to improve to 19-2 overall and 9-0 in league play. The Hokies slipped to 7-15 on the year and 0-9 in the ACC.
 

Though the Hokies came away winless in the series, their bats certainly came alive after lying dormant for most of the first two weekends of ACC play. In the six games against Georgia Tech and North Carolina, Tech hit just .214 with 12 runs, but in the three games with Florida State, the Hokies racked up 27 runs on 38 hits and a .324 batting average.

There were many offensive stars in the game for both teams. Three Seminoles - Buster Posey, Dennis Guinn and Tony Delmonico - had four hits apiece, with Guinn driving in five on a pair of home runs.

Designated hitter Austin Wates (Richmond, Va.), shortstop Ty Hohman (Tomball, Texas) and third baseman Michael Seaborn (Atlanta, Ga.) each recorded three hits for Tech, with Wates and Seaborn tallying three runs apiece and Hohman driving in three.
 
Geoff Parker (2-0) picked up the win for FSU in relief, tossing five innings of three-hit ball, while striking out six and allowing just one earned run. Freshman Jesse Hahn (Groton, Conn.) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on five hits in 2.1 innings of relief. He is now 1-3 on the season.
 
The teams traded runs for the first five innings, and Tech led 10-7 heading into the deciding sixth. Tyler Holt and Jason Stidham led off with back-to-back walks, moved to second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch by Hahn, and came home to score on a two-run double by Posey.

Guinn then doubled to plate Posey, and Tech reliever Rhett Ballard was brought in from the pen in relief of Hahn. Tony Delmonico promptly brought home Guinn with a home run of his own, this one a two-run shot that made it 11-10. FSU's final run of the frame came when Tommy Oravetz doubled and raced home on Ohmed Danesh's subsequent single.
 
Tech is scheduled to resume play on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. road contest at James Madison, which beat the Hokies 10-3 at English Field back on March 11.
