It was a beautiful day for racing Saturday night at the 1/2 mile super speedway. On top of that, all the cars were lined up three wide down the front stretch, and all the fans ..... ....were allowed to go down on the track to meet their favorite driver. Then, they were treated to possibly the most exciting racing of the season. The Berglund Performance Parts Late Models saw another repeat win. David Watts of Buchanan, picked up his second win of the season. Watts also continues the young gun streak. Randy Taylor of Troutdale tried to put a stop to that streak. Taylor followed Watts across the finish line. Taylor made a few runs on the restarts, but could not complete a pass. Matt Parks of Wytheville, added another top three to his season. Each week Parks is inching closer to the points leader Clinton Cook of Radford who finished fourth. David Wikle of Dublin rounded out the top five. Chad Hale, Wytheville picked up his first win of 2008 in the Cook’s Clean Center Super Street division. Keith Griffitts of Sugar Grove, came back from a fifth place finish last race to take home the second spot. Rural Retreat's Teddy Tate made his return to the 1/2 mile oval. After coming to the pits possibly for overheating, Tate rallied back to a third place finish. Mike Keith of Rural Retreat and Jimmy Tate of Wytheville were fourth and fifth. Ron Lawson of Austinville went to victory lane once again. Sherills Ford, NC driver Troy Loomis followed Lawson across the line. Loomis mounted a charge on Lawson, but it appeared that his handling went away and he could not complete the pass. Willie Gibson, Abingdon continues his streak of top three finishes. Rounding out the top five were Rural Retreat’s R.K. Dix and Marion’s Mike Johnson. Jason Powers of Marion, took the Pro Mini victory. Powers assumed the lead after J.R. Davisof Crockett took his car to the pits possibly from mechanical problems. R.K. Dix of Rural Retreat came home in second just shy of his first Pro Mini feature win. Randy Kincer, also of Rural Retreat, was the third place finisher. Current points leader Doug Monday of Max Meadows came home in fourth place. Jerry Dillow of Bluewell, WV rounded out the top five. Willis' Rob Favre took an exciting Ucar victory. The lead switched hands multiple times. Favre eventually pulled out to a comfortable lead. Duke Bare of Meadowview was second and Mt. Airy, NC driver Josh Forrest was third. Cody Umberger picked up his first Pepsi Hornet win of the season. Umberger cruised to the victory. Cole Dutton of Chilhowie finished second adding to his points lead. Clark Cooper of Rural Retreat who won the Monday night race finished third. The Fastrak Racing Series comes to town this Saturday for a $2000 to win feature. All children will be admitted free.Check online at WytheRaceWay.com. |
