Cougars Dominate Patrick Henry
By David "Cougardave" Gravely
The Pulaski County Cougars traveled to Roanoke on Friday night to face the Patrick Henry Patriots on beautiful Merril Gainer Field, and after a first half domination on both sides of the ball they moved to 2-0 on the season.

Fullback Seth Paris.

The Cougars started the game off with an impressive 9 play 59 yard drive which ended when Seth Paris busted through the middle of the line to score from one yard out.  After shutting down the Patrick Henry offense, the Cougars went on to score five more touchdowns in the first half to take a 42-0 lead into halftime.  The starters started coming out of the game late in the second quarter, and most starters saw little action in the second half.

The Cougars offense racked up 249 yards rushing and 84 yards passing in the contest, while holding the Patriots to 58 yards rushing and 35 yards passing.  In the first half, the Patrick Henry offense was held to -34 yards of total offense.

With the starters out, the Patriots were able to get on the board for one touchdown in the third quarter and one touchdown in the forth quarter.  In what may have been one of the most refreshing moments I've witnessed in high school sports in some years, both teams gathered together at mid-field after the post game handshakes, and one of the Patriot coaches talked to them about the importance of not only being a good football player, but the importance of being a good person and a good citizen in the community.  Both teams then bowed their heads in a prayer together, asking for good luck and good health for both teams as they continue on in their seasons.
