With only one regular season race left in the season, the Ucars, Pepsi Hornets, Open Wheel Modifieds, Pro Mini, and Cook’s Clean Center Super Streets went" toe to toe" with other drivers as well as the track in the annual Super Street Fall Brawl. The Super Street division saw a 50 lap feature, Mini Stock 40 laps, Modifieds 30 laps , Ucars 25, and Hornets 20. All the drivers were on their game trying to tame the 1/2 mile super speedway.

By virtue of her fifth win of 2008 in the Ucars, Pie Short of Abingdon becomes the first ever woman to win Wythe Raceway track championship. Short led all 25 laps of the feature without missing a beat. Pressure came from Cody Dutton, Chilhowie on the restarts, but a lap or to after Short began to pull away. Cody McMahan, also of Chilhowie, came home in third place rallying back from a spin on lap 12. Tim Widener, Marion and Jake Eaton, of Bland rounded out the top five.

Duke Bare of Meadowview picked up the win in the Pro Mini feature. Bare took the lead on lap 12. From there he led to the checkered flag. Bare held off charges from Andy Jolliffe, Chilhowie who posted his best finish of the season a second place. John Carlin also of Chilhowie posted his best finish of the year, third place.Marion’s Ron Jackson held on throughout the night for fourth place. Points leader Doug Monday, Max Meadows came home in fifth place.

Cole Dutton, Chilhowie wrapped up the Hornet championship Saturday night with his second place finish. Cody Umberger, Rural Retreat took the win, but fell short in the championship standings. Morgan Widener, Marion finished third. Clark, Rural Retreat and Jon Keyes, Sugar Grove rounded out the top five.

Michael Davis of Atkins made all the right calls in the Open Wheel Modifieds. Driving a flawless race and making the right adjustments at the pit stop landed him in victory lane. Ron Lawson, Austinville may not have won the race, but with his second place finish, Lawson has clinched his third title in as many years. Willie Gibson of Abingdon brought his car home in third after winning the Modified trophy dash earlier in the night. Holding off Roby Orr, Glade Springs and R.K. Dix, Rural Retreat.

Keith Griffitts ended the night on a good note, picking up the win in the 50 lap Super Street race. Strong advances from Chad Hale, Wytheville made sure Griffitts was on his guard. Hale was close several times, but just could not close the gap enough. Hale would settle for second place. Teddy Tate, Rural Retreat drove a clean smooth race. Tate just drove an easy race until the closing laps win he passed the fourth place finisher Mike Keith also of Rural Retreat, for third place. Keith had a strong care in the early going, but late in the race it appeared as if handling became an issue for Keith. R.K. Dix came home in fifth place.

Griffitts not only picked up $1,000.00 for the win but also was awarded a Bonus of $500.00 from Back in Time Restaurant and Holston Trucking of Rural Retreat for the Super Street victory.

This coming Saturday ends the regular season racing with the with a $5,000.00 to winCarolina Clash Super Late Model feature and a special $1000.00 to win feature for the Pro Late Models. September 20th, will feature the annual Demolition Derby, Train Race, and ATV races. Check online at WytheRaceWay.com for information.
