The race to the VHSL football playoffs seriously began last night. With the non-district games beginning for most teams with a host of district encounters, the competition for those elusive first round match-ups become even more competitive. In the River Ridge District, perennial powers Salem and Pulaski County began their quest with victories. Blacksburg matched them with a solid win to establish the Bruins as a contender. Despite the road loss, Christiansburg will probably be in the mix at season's end. Cave Spring and Hidden Valley will also be "tough outs" every week in what appears to be a "bring your best game each week or you lose" district season. Floyd County and Radford came away with big Three River District wins Friday night. Eastern Montgomery's win leaves them tied with the both Floyd County and Radford atop the district standings. The other team that figures to be there at the end will be Giles which always remains the most difficult squad to play because of their single wing offense and home record over the years. Listed below are the district and overall records for the teams in the River Ridge and Three Rivers District: River Ridge District Pulaski County 1-0(District) 6-0(Overall) Salem 1-0(District) 5-1(Overall) Blacksburg 1-0(District) 5-1(Overall) Christiansburg 0-1(District) 4-2(Overall) Cave Spring 0-1(District) 2-4(Overall) Hidden Valley 1-0(District) 1-5(Overall) Three Rivers District Floyd County 1-0(District) 6-0(Overall) Radford 1-0(District) 5-1(Overall) Eastern Montg. 1-0(District) 4-2(Overall) Giles 0-1(District) 3-3(Overall) Glenvar 0-1(District) 4-2(Overall) Auburn 0-1(District) 2-4(Overall) |
